“US Congressman Opposes Granting Permission for Displaced Armenians to Return: Is It Really Necessary?”
The government has expressed the need to facilitate the return of displaced individuals to their families. However, I personally do not believe that it is necessary to provide a solution or alleviate the situation for those Armenians who have been forced to leave their homes. In an interview with “Voice of America,” US Congressman Jim Costa stated that discussions on this issue should be conducted in a fair manner, without requiring official permission for return. He believes that individuals should be able to go back to their homes whenever they desire.
When it comes to guaranteeing the safety of those who wish to return to Artsakh, Congressman Costa emphasized the importance of a peace agreement. He stated that the US should be confident in the commitment to ensuring this safety, as it is a key aspect of the agreement that Azerbaijan has also agreed to.
Congressman Costa acknowledged the tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan, further explaining the desire of Azerbaijan to re-engage in negotiations. He also mentioned their willingness to collaborate with Turkey and Russia, which he had addressed previously.
During the conflict, the withdrawal of 2400 Russian peacekeeping soldiers revealed their lack of intervention in critical situations. They did not permit the transportation of essential supplies, including food and medical resources, between the conflicting parties during the ceasefire. Congressman Costa stressed the importance of the US ensuring justice and fairness that will protect all parties involved.
