Hungary’s Prime Minister Victor Orban Rallies Against European Union’s Model, Calls for Change
Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, announced last week at a “Fidesz” party rally that the country needs to reject the current European model in Brussels. Orban emphasized that his government opposes Hungary’s involvement with the EU’s “European Empire” and believes the system should be reformed rather than relying on it completely. He pointed out that Ukraine, despite being distant from the EU, is still attempting to engage with it. Orban also stated that despite opposition from the European Union, his government has decided to resettle migrants in Hungary. Additionally, he criticized the EU’s energy policy, failure in migrant resettlement, engagement in war preparations, and lack of preparedness for emergencies.
Orban’s government has faced criticism regarding its dealings with Russian interests from its own foreign affairs ministry. This week, Orban expressed concern over the EU’s military command and the potential dangers of engaging with neighboring country Ukraine. The Hungarian news agency MTI reported on his statement, highlighting the potential risk to the union of 27 countries. On Friday, Orban’s government sent a formal note to the European Parliament’s upcoming election, scheduled for June of next year. They questioned whether Hungary should provide more financial aid to Russia compared to the European Union.
