“Explosion at Yerevan State University leaves one dead and three injured; investigation underway”

The investigation is still ongoing, so I am unable to provide any comments at this time. However, during a meeting with journalists near the YSU central building today on November 17, YSU Rector Aram Simonyan did make a mention of the incident.

The journalists expressed concern about whether there were dangerous substances present in the chemical faculty where the explosion took place. Unfortunately, the rector did not respond and quickly entered the building. The person accompanying him stated, “You will think about it later, you can’t right now.”

Prior to this, NEWS.am had already reported that an explosion occurred and a fire broke out in one of the rooms of the Artillery Memorial of YSU 1.

At 9:40, the national emergency management service received a report from the 9-11 emergency management of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs, indicating that an emergency had occurred at one of the buildings of the Yerevan State University. According to preliminary information, there has been one fatality and three injuries resulting from the explosion. Initial data suggests that the explosion was caused by a gas leak. Fortunately, the fire has now been extinguished.
