“Russia and Azerbaijan to Ink Crucial Railway Agreement by 2023, Boosting North-South Transport Corridor”

Russia and Azerbaijan have announced plans to sign an agreement by the end of 2023 regarding the construction of the Resht-Astara railway, a crucial segment of the North-South transport corridor. The announcement came from Andrei Belooussov, the first deputy head of Russian Railways, during the “Transport Week” forum. Belooussov explained that the entire construction of the Resht-Astara railway line is expected to be completed by 2028, with annual investments increasing by approximately 15 million dollars. This endeavor is seen as a mutually beneficial program and is being reported by the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

In addition to the railway project, discussions are ongoing about the creation of an international opera house within the transport corridor. Russia had initially proposed this initiative a year ago and it is believed that representatives from Russia, Iran, and Azerbaijan would be involved in organizing the opera house.
