Former NSS President and Wife on Trial: Artur Vanetsyan and Nazik Amiryan’s Case Reaches End Stage
A trial is currently taking place in the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan under the chairmanship of Judge Mane Martirosyan. The trial involves former President of the NSS, Artur Vanetsyan, and his wife, Nazik Amiryan. It is worth noting that the trial is nearing its end and today Nazik Amiryan appeared in court.
It is important to recall that the public prosecutor had published a scandalous letter demanding the prosecution of Manvel Grigoryan, accusing him of abuse of power. Meanwhile, his wife, Nazik Amiryan, requested his release on parole due to health reasons.
Manvel Grigoryan is facing charges of possessing a large amount of weapons and ammunition, embezzlement of over 101 million drams, evading payment of over 1 billion drams in taxes, organizing misappropriation of more than 1 billion drams from state funds, and causing damage to the state budget in the amount of 37 million drams.
The trial of Grigoryan and his wife, Nazik Amiryan, has been ongoing since 2019. Grigoryan has been under arrest for almost two years, and prosecutors have consistently accused him of direct involvement in corruption. They have also claimed that he suffers from incurable diseases and is unable to receive treatment abroad. However, he did not participate in previous hearings due to poor health.
After being evaluated as stable near the prison, Grigoryan’s condition led to the court’s decision to schedule a new hearing and discuss the issue of changing the preventive measure chosen for him based on his health. The court replaced the previous measure of detention with house arrest.
In 2020, the court decided to replace the call for Grigoryan’s house arrest with a written guarantee in order to prevent him from leaving. However, Grigoryan’s life was short-lived, as he passed away on November 19, 2020.
