Armenian Education Ministry Responds to Controversy: Russian-Language Textbooks Assessed for Use in Schools
The entry of textbooks into schools is not prohibited, as long as they have undergone assessment required by the law on general education in the Republic of Armenia. The Committee of the Russian Language of the CGSA has announced the distribution of Russian-language textbooks among schools, which were delivered by Russia. According to the “Law on Education,” all educational materials used in schools, including textbooks, undergo examination to ensure their suitability for use by educational professionals in Armenia. Russian-language textbooks, as well as other textbooks, have been assessed based on the new standards of general education in Armenia.
The announcement from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports also emphasized that education in Armenia should provide the same outcome for every child, regardless of the language of instruction. The goal is to ensure that educational institutions in Armenia have the same requirements and opportunities, regardless of whether the instruction is conducted in Russian or not. The assessment process aims to achieve this equality and standardization in the curriculum.
Earlier, it was reported that Yuri Vorobyov, Deputy Head of the Russian Orthodox Church, alleged that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia accuses Russia of delivering Russian-language textbooks to schools and dividing them based on the language of instruction. However, it is important to note that the distribution of textbooks imported from Russia in Armenia has been suspended.
These developments highlight the efforts to ensure quality education and standardization in Armenian schools. The assessment of textbooks and educational materials plays a crucial role in achieving these goals, as it ensures that all students receive the same level of education, regardless of the language of instruction. The focus should be on creating an inclusive and equal educational system that benefits every child in Armenia.
