Israeli forces target Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza Strip, endangering patients and staff
Israeli military personnel have started evacuating the “Al-Shifa” hospital in Gaza, according to reports from the news agency TAS. The hospital is being targeted by occupying forces, with explosions being heard in parts of the building. It has been revealed that the hospital currently houses approximately 700 patients and 700 staff members, with an additional 2-3 thousand people seeking refuge there due to ongoing shelling in the surrounding areas.
Reports from Al Jazeera indicate that Israeli military medical specialists have been sent to assist the overwhelmed Al-Shifa hospital. The hospital is described as overflowing with patients, including newborns and many injured children. Additionally, Israeli armored troops have been observed in the hospital’s backyard, where the Israeli medical unit’s tanks are located.
A representative from the Israeli military command has stated that the military doctors will not leave the hospital as they are conducting actions to ensure the safety of civilians and maintain conditions for peaceful life. CNN correspondent Peter Lerner referred to the hospital as the “heart that has been struck.” Hamas claims that they were warned to stay away from hospitals and facilities prior to the start of Israeli operations.
Dr. Khaleed Abu Samaan, a physician at the hospital, reported hearing drones near the hospital entrance. Journalist Hader al-Zanoun confirmed that Israeli tanks had entered the hospital compound and an operation had taken place in the basement. Dr. May Al-Khayal, head of the emergency department at Palestine Medical Complex, expressed concern over the impact of the military campaign on patient and staff safety, describing it as a new practice with potentially devastating consequences.
