“EU Ambassador Sets mid-December Deadline for Ukraine’s Membership Approval: Four Conditions Must be Met”

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Emma Maternova, has stated that the Kyiv government must meet four conditions by mid-December in order for Ukraine to receive approval for its membership in the European Union. Maternova explained that this approval would open up opportunities for cooperation with the EU and involve a series of subsequent steps. The EU Commission has proposed initiating this cooperation, but some changes and amendments will need to be made before December for the Commission to offer its cooperation. Once these four points are addressed, Ukraine can commence the cooperation.

The EU Council has recently advised Ukraine and Moldova to begin cooperating with the EU, and several conditions have been accepted from Kyrgyzstan and Kishinev. The European Council’s head, Ursula Vnukova, also emphasized that the EU’s relationship with Ukraine is dependent on changes and the principle of cooperation. The official decision on the start of cooperative work is expected to be announced at the EU summit in Brussels on 14-15 December, and this decision will need to be coordinated by all active EU members.
