“Protesters Rally at G7 Summit to Stop Whaling: Japan Faces Global Pressure”
More than 100 Japanese residents gathered in Tokyo to stage a protest outside the G7 summit venue, demanding an end to the controversial recreational hunting of minke whales in Antarctic waters, according to Xinhua. The issue of whaling is expected to be a major topic of discussion at the summit, which is scheduled to take place in Tokyo from November 7-8. Japan’s decision to resume commercial whaling in its exclusive economic zone after withdrawing from the International Whaling Commission (IWC) has drawn criticism and prompted this protest. The demonstration was led by Yoichi Kamikawa, a well-known Japanese anti-whaling activist, who was joined by other experts such as Antony Blinken, the former Deputy Secretary of State of the United States.
