“Head of Judiciary Administration Attends EU-Funded Meeting to Protect Rights of Detainees and Ensure Judicial Independence”

The head of the judiciary administration, Levon Balyan, recently attended the inaugural meeting of a working group organized as part of the “Program for the Protection of the Rights of Detainees Deprived of Liberty” implemented by the European Union’s delegation to Armenia. The meeting emphasized the importance of assessing risks and needs of judges, as well as implementing the work done by the judicial administration, in order to ensure the independence of the judiciary and foster cooperation with the European Union in the field of justice. Additionally, the meeting addressed various issues such as risk assessment, strategic planning, release preparation, and the implementation of effective programs for professional development and probation.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Justice of Armenia discussed the tool for assessing risks and needs of judges, along with the associated road map for piloting and implementation. The meeting also tackled topics like deadlines, stakeholder participation, and took examples from other countries that have already adopted similar systems.

In conclusion, the head of the judiciary administration reiterated the commitment to strengthen the collaboration between the judiciary and the European Union, particularly in the areas of judicial and probationary sector reforms.
