“Remote Trial Convicts Individual for Violating State Border – Fined 2.8 Million AMD”

On September 20, 2023, the general criminal court of Yerevan city convicted A.A. for violating the state border of the Republic of Armenia (Article 82) through remote proceedings, which were conducted due to the state of emergency. A.A. was sentenced to a fine.

According to NEWS.am, A.A. was charged with a fine of 200,000 AMD for each violation, along with additional fines totaling 2,630,000 AMD.

During the preliminary investigation into the criminal case initiated by the National Security Service of Armenia, it was revealed that A.A. had violated the state border of the Republic of Armenia (Article 82). This led to the demand for the declaration of A.A.’s violation.

On September 13, 2022, the investigator in charge decided to initiate criminal proceedings against A.A. for committing the offense of violating the state border.

On February 8, 2023, the court approved the indictment against A.A. for the criminal offense and transferred the case materials to the general criminal court of Yerevan city. Additionally, the court held a preliminary hearing in preparation for A.A.’s remote trial, which was scheduled for March 2, 2023.

As of now, the first court session of the remote trial has not yet started and is expected to take place on a specified date.
