“Aragatsotn community in turmoil: Residents left without communication with newspaper editor and community leader”

The residents of the Ashnak community in the Aragatsotn region have expressed their dissatisfaction with the editorial policy of the newspaper “Zhoghovurd.” They have been unable to establish any communication with the editor-in-chief, Tovmas Shahverdyan, who is also the head of the local community. Shahverdyan’s Facebook page only allows him to follow publications, making it impossible for residents to reach out to him. Following recent public incidents, all means of communication with Shahverdyan, including his phone number and social media accounts, have been closed. The only available options for correspondence with the community leader are the official postal office and the Holy See of Etchmiadzin, where residents are hoping their pleas and requests will be heard by God.

Earlier this month, protesters who were against the construction of the “Jor” restaurant complex in the Guylustan district of Ashnak blocked the road to the “Galusti Jor” waterfall. The demonstration escalated into a conflict between certain individuals, with logs ending up in the river. Contradicting reports have emerged regarding the behavior of the community leader and the local authorities during the protest.

It is important to note that Tovmas Shahverdyan, currently a prominent member of the Civic Contract party, was formerly a member of the Republican Party of Armenia.
