“Russia and Armenia Sign Agreement to Transfer Armenian ICC Proposal to Rome’s Criminal Court”

Russia and Armenia have recently signed an intergovernmental agreement with the aim of transferring the Armenian offer to host the International Criminal Court (ICC) to Rome’s criminal court. The announcement of the Armenian proposal was made by Ljeheh Slutske, the head of the State Department of Public Hearings of the Office of the Ombudsman, during a meeting with Jacob Arshakyan, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia.

Slutske emphasized that Armenia has not taken any unfriendly steps against Russia regarding Rome’s accreditation of the ICC. It is believed that the actions of the Armenian-Azerbaijani military conflict have not been adequately documented, thus the use of these legal instruments remains unconfirmed. “The ICC is primarily a regional institution that operates in coordination with the Russian government, and it makes certain decisions for our country,” stated Dumac’s representative.

According to Slutske, similar proposals are also being made by the Russian side. “Are they being sent by the Armenian side? This matter is currently under discussion. Therefore, the signing of the agreement on the accreditation of the Rome Statute, considering the historical context created by Armenia, is expected to be a challenging process,” remarked the representative.
